Cookies and local storage
Last updated: 2026-10-01
This page lists everything Närmast vinner stores on your device, what it is for and how long it stays. There is nothing here for analytics, advertising or tracking — the list below is the whole of it.
Cookies
We set one cookie. It is first-party, holds nothing but a language code, and contains no identifier.
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime | Why it is necessary |
|---|---|---|---|
| NEXT_LOCALE | Remembers the language you chose, so the site loads in it next time. | 1 year | Without it your language choice is forgotten on every visit. |
Local storage
These entries are kept by your browser in local storage. They stay on your device and are never sent to us automatically the way a cookie is.
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime | Why it is necessary |
|---|---|---|---|
| narmast_access_token | The token that proves you are signed in on each request. It is only valid for about 15 minutes, but the entry itself stays in your browser until it is replaced or cleared. | Until sign-out or replacement | Required for a signed-in session you asked for. |
| narmast_refresh_token | Renews the short-lived token above without asking you to sign in again. Our server stops accepting it after about 30 days of disuse, but the entry itself stays in your browser until a later sign-in, refresh or sign-out replaces or clears it. | Until sign-out or replacement | Without it you would be signed out every quarter of an hour. |
| narmast_user | A copy of your own profile, so your name and settings show instantly. | Until you sign out | Avoids blanking the interface on every page load. |
| playerId | Identifies you within a game when you play without an account. | Until cleared | Multiplayer cannot tell players apart without it. |
| displayName | The name shown to other players in the current game. | Until cleared | Needed to show your name on the scoreboard. |
| preferred_language | Records the language you last picked yourself, as opposed to one detected from your browser. | Until cleared | Lets Settings show your saved choice next to the detected language, so you can tell them apart. |
| narmast_theme | Which visual theme you selected. | Until cleared | Read before the page is drawn so it does not flash the wrong theme. |
Local storage counts as much as cookies
The rules on storing things on your device are written in terms of your equipment, not the technology used, so local storage is treated exactly like a cookie. It is easy to assume that something which is not a cookie falls outside the rules; that assumption is wrong, which is why everything we store is listed above rather than only the one cookie.
Why there is no cookie banner
Consent is required for storage that is not strictly necessary for a service you explicitly asked for. Everything in the tables above is strictly necessary in exactly that sense — signing in, being told apart from other players, and having your language and theme remembered are all things you asked for by using the site. None of it profiles you or follows you to other sites, so there is nothing to consent to and no banner to click away.
Third-party storage
Video clues play through youtube-nocookie.com, which sets no cookies. The player does keep two small technical entries of its own on that domain, recording that its database works and how fast your connection is; neither contains an identifier. Google Maps stored nothing at all when we audited it. If you sign in with Google, Google sets its own cookies on its own pages, under its own notice.
What we do not use
No analytics of any kind, no Google Analytics, no advertising or ad network, no tracking pixels, no tag manager, no A/B testing and no social media buttons. We never sell your data and never share it for advertising or tracking. Some third parties do receive data in order to run the site — a map request reaches Google, a bug report reaches GitHub and OpenAI — and the privacy policy names each one and what it sees.
Clearing what is stored
Every browser can delete cookies and local storage for a site, usually under privacy or site settings, and doing so removes everything listed here. Signing out clears the sign-in entries by itself. If you have an account, nothing is lost: your account and history live on our server, and you will simply be signed out with your language and theme reset. If you play without an account, clearing storage also erases the identifier that ties you to a game in progress, and you cannot rejoin it as the same player.
